Surf Lessons in Stromboli is a guided surfing programme on the black-sand beaches of Stromboli, Sicily, at the base of the active volcano. Lessons pair certified instructors with small groups, using the island's consistent Mediterranean swells. Each session includes a safety briefing on volcanic shoreline conditions and equipment fitting for all skill levels.
What to expect
- Two-hour sessions run daily from May to October, with wetsuit, soft-top board, and leash supplied
- Instructors teach paddle technique and pop-up drills on the beach before entering the water at Spiaggia di Ficogrande
- Beginner groups stay in waist-deep water near the black sand, while intermediate surfers paddle to the reef break off Punta Lena
- Each lesson ends with video review of your take-offs and turns, using a GoPro mounted on the instructor's board
- Suitable for ages 8 and up, with a maximum ratio of four students per instructor
- All participants receive a rash guard and reef-safe sunscreen, and changing rooms with freshwater showers are available on site
