About this experience

The Festivals in Stromboli are a series of traditional religious and cultural celebrations held on the island of Stromboli, Sicily, throughout the year. These events honour local saints and maritime heritage, featuring processions, music, and communal gatherings in the island's main piazzas. Visitors can witness authentic island life through these annual observances, which are deeply rooted in the community's history.

What to expect

The Feast of San Bartolo in August includes a torchlit procession from the church to the harbour, followed by fireworks over the sea.
The Festa della Madonna del Terremoto in September features a statue carried through the streets, with locals in traditional dress and a boat blessing ceremony.
Each festival typically lasts 2-3 hours, with the main events occurring in the evening to accommodate cooler temperatures and working schedules.
Attendees can observe and join in the singing of traditional Sicilian hymns, accompanied by a local brass band that plays during the processions.
Street stalls sell regional foods such as granita, arancini, and grilled swordfish, providing a taste of local cuisine during the festivities.
These events suit travellers interested in cultural immersion, as they offer direct interaction with residents and a view of customs unchanged for centuries.
