About this experience

Festivals in Pantelleria is a year-round programme of religious and cultural celebrations held across the island of Pantelleria, Sicily. These events include the Feast of San Leonardo in June, the Madonna della Margana in July, and the grape harvest festival in September. Each festival combines processions, traditional music, and local food stalls, offering a direct view of the island's community life.

What to expect

Attend the Feast of San Leonardo on 6 June, featuring a boat procession from the harbour and a street fair with local wine and capers.
Join the Madonna della Margana festival in July, which includes a torchlit night procession from the church to the sea and a fireworks display over the port.
Taste freshly pressed Zibibbo grape juice at the September harvest festival, where you can also watch traditional grape-stomping demonstrations.
Each festival includes a religious mass in the local dialect, followed by a communal meal of couscous with fish or rabbit, served in the piazza.
Expect crowds of residents and returning emigrants, with events lasting from late afternoon until midnight, and seating is on plastic chairs or standing room only.
Suitable for travellers interested in authentic local customs, but note that most announcements are in Sicilian and English is rarely spoken.
