About this experience

Festivals in Pantaleria is a year-round programme of religious and cultural celebrations held across the island of Pantelleria, Sicily. These events include the Feast of San Leonardo in August, the Grape Festival in September, and the Easter Week processions, each rooted in local tradition. Visitors join residents in streets, piazzas, and churches for processions, music, and food stalls.

What to expect

The Feast of San Leonardo (16 August) features a statue carried through the streets of Pantelleria town, followed by fireworks over the harbour at midnight.
The Grape Festival (mid-September) offers free tastings of local Zibibbo grapes and passito wine in the vineyards around Bugeber, with folk dancing and live bands.
Easter Week processions on Good Friday include a silent candlelit march from the Chiesa Madre to the Santuario della Madonna della Margana, lasting about two hours.
Each festival includes a dedicated food area selling local specialities such as caponata, couscous with fish, and sweet ricotta cakes, priced between 5 and 10 euros.
Most events are family-friendly, with children's games and face painting at the summer feasts, and seating areas for elderly attendees near the main stages.
The festivals run from late afternoon until midnight, with the main processions or concerts starting at 6 PM and ending with a communal toast or fireworks display.
