Wine Tasting in Favignana is a guided tasting of local Sicilian wines on the island of Favignana, in the Egadi archipelago. The session pairs three to five wines with regional cheeses and cured meats, set in a historic tonnara or vineyard terrace. Attendees learn about the island's winemaking traditions and the influence of sea salt and Mediterranean sun on the grapes.
What to expect
- The tasting lasts 90 minutes and includes a flight of four wines: a Grillo, a Nero d'Avola, a Catarratto, and a sweet Passito di Pantelleria.
- Each wine is paired with a small plate of local produce, including pecorino cheese, capers from Pantelleria, and almond biscotti.
- The venue is either a restored tuna-fishing warehouse or a terraced vineyard with views of the harbour and the island's limestone quarries.
- A sommelier or local winemaker narrates the history of each wine, covering the volcanic soil of Mount Etna and the island's dry, windy climate.
- Guests receive a tasting card with tasting notes and a map of the participating wineries in the Egadi region.
- The activity suits adults over 18, including solo travellers and small groups, and operates in the late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
