What types of wine are produced in the Canary Islands?

The Canary Islands produce unique wines thanks to volcanic soil and traditional grape varieties. Lanzarote's La Geria region is famous for Malvasía wines grown in volcanic ash. Tenerife produces Listán Blanco and Negro wines. Red and white varieties from Tacoronte-Acentejo are also well-regarded.

What does a wine tasting experience include?

Wine tasting experiences typically include a guided tour of the vineyard and bodega, an explanation of the winemaking process, and a tasting of 3–6 wines paired with local cheeses and tapas. Many tastings are held in atmospheric volcanic bodegas.

About this experience

Wine Tasting in Custonaci is a guided tasting of local Sicilian wines in the town of Custonaci, in the province of Trapani. Participants sample a selection of wines produced from grapes grown on the surrounding slopes of Mount Erice and the coastal plain. The session includes a brief introduction to the region's viticultural traditions and the characteristics of each pour.

What to expect

The tasting lasts approximately 90 minutes and includes five wines: a white Grillo, a red Nero d'Avola, a rosé, a sweet passito, and a sparkling option.
Each wine is paired with a small plate of local foods, such as pecorino cheese, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes, sourced from nearby farms.
The venue is a family-run winery with a terrace overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare, where you can see the salt pans of Trapani in the distance.
A guide explains the soil composition, the altitude of the vineyards, and the harvest dates for each wine, with time for questions.
The activity suits adults aged 18 and over, including solo travellers, couples, and small groups of up to 12 people.
At the end, you receive a printed tasting card listing the wines, their alcohol percentage, and the recommended serving temperature.
