Travellers reaching Sicily arrive by flights, ferries and hydrofoils from the Italian mainland, and Italian is the everyday language across the island. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and milder, wetter winters, and the peak season runs June to September. Meals on the island often centre on seafood, handmade pasta, olive oil and local wines, so a visit to a bar can sit alongside those traditions. Catania is one of the towns that makes the eastern side of Sicily straightforward to move around.
