Travellers arriving on Sicily will find summers hot and dry and winters mild with more rain, and the island draws its heaviest crowds between June and September. Plates across the island lean on seafood, handmade pasta, olive oil and wines produced locally. Planes, ferries and hydrofoils connect Sicily with the Italian mainland, and Italian is the language spoken day to day. Catania is one nearby city that drivers may pass through on the way to Augusta.
