Hiking Tours in Stromboli

About this experience

What to expect

• Duration is approximately 5 to 6 hours round trip, starting at the village of San Vincenzo and climbing 400 vertical metres on volcanic ash and rock paths.
• A licensed volcanological guide accompanies each group, carrying a portable gas detector and maintaining a safety perimeter of 300 metres from the active craters.
• Hikers witness regular strombolian eruptions—small explosions ejecting lava bombs and ash—from the designated observation terrace at 400 metres altitude.
• The tour includes a sunset pause at the summit area, where the view spans the Aeolian Islands and the Tyrrhenian Sea, followed by a torchlit descent.
• Suitable for adults and children aged 10 and above with good fitness; participants must wear closed-toe hiking boots with ankle support and bring at least 1.5 litres of water per person.
• The tour is limited to groups of 20 people, and bookings are confirmed only after a weather and volcanic activity check on the morning of the hike.
