What to expect

• Tours run for 3 to 4 hours, covering 6 to 8 kilometres on flat, sandy trails suitable for moderate fitness levels
• A local guide explains the salt harvesting process and points out flamingos, egrets, and other migratory birds in the Saline di Trapani e Paceco reserve
• Stops include the 16th-century windmills of the Ettore and Infersa salt pans, with time to photograph the red and pink salt pools
• The route passes the archaeological site of the ancient Phoenician port of Mozia, visible from the shore but not entered
• Groups are limited to 12 people, and walking poles and a bottle of water are provided at the start
• The tour ends at the Marsala waterfront, where participants can sample local sea salt and olive oil at a family-run producer
