Surf Lessons in Phi Phi Don is a guided surfing course on the island's main beach, Loh Dalum Bay, in Koh Phi Phi. The activity pairs beginner-friendly instruction with the gentle, shallow waves that form during the monsoon season from May to October. Each session focuses on board control, paddling, and standing up, with all equipment provided by the local surf school.
What to expect
- Lessons run for 2 hours, including 30 minutes of land-based technique training before entering the water
- A soft-top surfboard, leash, and rash guard are included in the lesson fee
- You will practice catching waves in waist-deep water directly in front of the beach's sandy shore
- The instructor stays in the water with you, giving one-on-one corrections for balance and stance
- Suitable for first-time surfers and swimmers with basic confidence, as the waves rarely exceed 1 metre
- After the lesson, you keep the board for an extra 30 minutes to practice independently on the same beach
