About this experience

Festivals in Fuencaliente is a year-round programme of local fiestas held in the municipality of Fuencaliente on the southern tip of La Palma. These events mark religious patron saint days, harvests, and volcanic commemorations with processions, music, and traditional Canarian food. The calendar includes the Fiesta de San Antonio Abad in January, the Almond Blossom Festival in February, and the Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios in September.

What to expect

The Almond Blossom Festival in late February features a guided walk through flowering almond groves, local craft stalls, and almond-based pastries sold by village associations.
The Fiesta de San Antonio Abad in January includes a livestock blessing, a procession with the saint's statue, and a communal potaje (bean stew) cooked in large cauldrons in the plaza.
The September patron saint fiesta for Nuestra Señora de los Remedios runs three days with a religious procession to the lighthouse, a verbena dance in the evening, and a firework display over the Atlantic.
Each fiesta includes a traditional Canarian lunch of grilled goat meat, wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce, and local wine from Fuencaliente's vineyards.
The events suit families and cultural travellers, with most activities starting at midday and lasting until late night, and are free to attend.
During the volcanic anniversary fiestas (Teneguía, 1971), visitors can join a guided route to the eruption site with geologist commentary and a commemorative mass at the San Antonio Volcano visitor centre.
