About this experience

Surf Lessons in Mae Haad is a beginner-focused surf school located on the sandy bay of Mae Haad, Koh Tao. The lessons take place in the gentle, shallow waters of the bay, where consistent small waves form during the southwest monsoon season from May to September. Each session is led by a certified instructor who provides all necessary equipment, including a soft-top board and rash guard.

What to expect

Each lesson lasts 90 minutes and includes a 15-minute land-based technique briefing before entering the water.
All equipment is provided: a 9-foot soft-top surfboard, a rash guard, and reef-safe sunscreen.
You will practise paddling, popping up, and riding whitewater waves directly in front of the Mae Haad pier, with the instructor in the water beside you.
The lesson suits complete beginners aged 8 and above, with a maximum of 4 students per instructor for individual feedback.
You will receive a short video review of your last wave attempt at the end of the session to correct your posture.
Lessons run at low tide only, when the sandbar creates a flat, shallow training area free of rocks and coral.
