Klong Prao’s dining scene centres on the beachfront road and estuary, where family-run Thai kitchens and seafood grills sit beside the lagoon. The area offers a mix of casual bamboo shacks and open-air restaurants, all within a short walk of the main resorts. Menus focus on fresh catch, curries, and stir-fries, with many tables placed directly on the sand or over the water.
What to expect
- Most restaurants open from 11:00 to 22:00, with dinner service peaking between 18:00 and 20:00; no reservations are needed for walk-in tables.
- Seafood is priced per kilogram at the display tank or ice bed; you choose the fish, prawns, or crab, and specify grilled, steamed, or fried preparation.
- A typical meal for two with two mains, rice, and drinks costs between 400 and 800 Thai baht, excluding service charge.
- Several venues on the estuary side offer kayak access, letting you paddle to your table during high tide.
- Live music occurs at three larger venues on Friday and Saturday nights, usually acoustic Thai pop from 19:30 onward.
- Vegetarian options are limited to pad thai, fried rice, and som tam at most kitchens; vegan diners should ask for fish-sauce-free preparation.
