Kai Bae Beach on Koh Chang offers a compact strip of casual restaurants and bars lining the sand, serving Thai seafood and Western comfort food. The dining scene here centres on open-air wooden decks with ocean views, where visitors eat grilled fish and drink cold beer. Most venues operate from late morning until midnight, with live music on some evenings.
What to expect
- Seafood platters with locally caught crab, squid, and snapper are grilled over charcoal at beachfront stalls, priced from 300 to 600 baht per dish.
- Dinner tables sit directly on the sand or on raised platforms, with waves audible at high tide and sunset views across the Gulf of Thailand.
- Thai curries, pad thai, and som tam are available at family-run kitchens, with most main dishes costing 80 to 200 baht.
- Several bars offer happy hour from 17:00 to 19:00, with two-for-one cocktails and draft Chang beer at 90 baht per pint.
- Live acoustic guitar or reggae bands perform at three venues nightly from 20:00, often playing covers of Bob Marley and Thai pop.
- Vegetarian and vegan options, such as tofu stir-fries and mango sticky rice, are listed on most menus, and staff will adjust spice levels on request.
