Bang Bao is a working fishing village on Koh Chang's south-west coast, where restaurants and dining options are built on stilts over the sea. The village's seafood restaurants serve catches landed daily by local boats, alongside Thai classics and Western dishes. Bang Bao's dining scene is compact, with most eateries clustered along the wooden pier and its side alleys.
What to expect
- Seafood is the focus: choose live fish, prawns, and crabs from tanks at many restaurants, and have them grilled or steamed to order.
- Most restaurants are open-air wooden decks over the water, offering views of the bay and the comings and goings of fishing boats.
- Meals typically cost 150-400 THB per person for a main dish with rice; a full seafood feast for two with several dishes runs 800-1,500 THB.
- Dining is casual and unhurried; service is usually prompt, but expect a 10-20 minute wait for freshly cooked seafood.
- Several restaurants have seating directly on the pier, so you can watch squid boats and longtail boats pass within a few metres.
- The village is pedestrian-only, so you walk along the wooden walkway to reach each restaurant; wear flat, non-slip shoes.
