Coffee Shops in Barano is a self-guided tour of the island's historic coffee houses, located in the hilltop village of Barano d'Ischia. This activity takes visitors through narrow stone alleys to family-run bars serving traditional Neapolitan espresso and local pastries. Each stop offers a distinct view of the surrounding vineyards and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
What to expect
- Visit 4 to 6 working coffee bars, each with its own roasting method and century-old brass espresso machine
- Taste a standard espresso or caffè corretto, with the option to add local hazelnut liqueur at an extra cost
- Walk a 1.5-kilometre route on foot, lasting roughly 90 minutes, with stair climbs and uneven cobblestones
- See the baristas prepare coffee using water from the village's natural spring, a practice unique to Barano
- Suitable for small groups of up to 8 people, with a printed map provided in English and Italian
- End at a terrace bar overlooking the Bay of Naples, where a complimentary glass of cold water is included
