Drone Photography in Pahoa is a guided aerial imaging session on the Big Island of Hawaii, operating from the town of Pahoa near the island's volcanic east coast. The activity provides a licensed pilot and drone equipment to capture footage of lava fields, rainforest edges, and black-sand shores. Participants receive a private flight briefing and a memory card with their raw footage at the end of the session.
What to expect
- Session lasts 90 minutes, including a 20-minute pre-flight safety and airspace rules briefing.
- A DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone with a 4/3 CMOS sensor is provided, along with two spare batteries and a tablet monitor for live viewing.
- You will fly over the Kilauea rift zone's recent lava flow fields, the Puna coastline's ironwood groves, and the tidal pools at Kapoho.
- The pilot handles all FAA Part 107 compliance and obtains a temporary flight clearance from the nearby Hilo airport tower.
- Suitable for beginners and hobbyists; you control the drone for at least 30 minutes, with the pilot taking over for complex manoeuvres.
- Each participant receives a 32GB SD card containing all raw 5.4K video and 20-megapixel stills, with no post-editing included.
