Diving & Snorkeling in Puako is a guided water activity along the lava-rock coastline of Puako, on Hawaii's Big Island. The site features shallow coral gardens and a steep drop-off, with calm conditions typical in the morning. Entry is from a rocky shore, and the reef supports green sea turtles and a variety of tropical fish.
What to expect
- Two-hour guided tour, including mask, snorkel, fins, and a floatation device.
- Snorkel over a fringing reef with 30+ coral species, including lobe and finger corals.
- Dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres for certified divers, with a dive master leading the route.
- Spot green sea turtles resting on sandy patches and honu cleaning stations.
- Suitable for beginners and families; children aged 8 and up can join the snorkel portion.
- Shore entry from a lava shelf, with a short walk of 50 metres from the car park to the water.
