Diving & Snorkeling in Kona is a guided ocean activity on the Big Island of Hawaii, operating from the sheltered waters of Kailua Bay. Participants explore coral reefs and lava tubes teeming with tropical fish, green sea turtles, and occasionally spinner dolphins. The activity runs daily from the Kona pier, with all gear and instruction provided.
What to expect
- Two-hour boat trip to a choice of five reef sites, with a maximum of six divers per guide.
- Full scuba gear, wetsuit, and snorkel mask included; certified divers receive a tank and weights, beginners get a 30-minute shore-based lesson.
- Sightings of Hawaiian green sea turtles, parrotfish, and moray eels are common at depths of 10 to 20 metres.
- Snorkelers stay in a protected lagoon with calm water, while divers descend along a lava tube system that ends in a sandy plateau.
- Suitable for ages 10 and up; non-swimmers can join the snorkel group using a flotation vest and a guide-led tow rope.
- Morning departures at 8:00 and 10:30, with a 45-minute surface interval that includes fresh fruit and water.
