Surf Lessons in El Hierro is a guided surf tuition programme based on the island's volcanic coastline, with sessions held at beginner-friendly breaks such as La Maceta and Tacorón. The lessons are run by certified local instructors who provide all necessary equipment, including boards, wetsuits, and leashes, and adapt the teaching to each participant's skill level. The activity takes place in small groups of up to six people, ensuring direct feedback and safe progression in the Atlantic swell.
What to expect
- Each lesson lasts 2 hours, including a 20-minute land-based safety and technique briefing before entering the water.
- All equipment is supplied: a soft-top surfboard, a 4/3mm wetsuit, and reef booties, sized to your height and weight.
- You will practise paddling, pop-up, and wave-riding at a shallow, sandy-bottomed bay selected for the day's tide and swell direction.
- The instructor provides in-water coaching and video analysis of your final session, with footage shared via a private link.
- Suitable for complete beginners aged 8 and over, as well as intermediate surfers wanting to refine their turns on a longboard.
- Sessions run from Monday to Saturday at 10:00 and 15:00, with a maximum of six participants per group.
