Surf Lessons in Ajuy is a guided surf school session on the black-sand beach of Ajuy, on Fuerteventura's west coast. The activity provides wetsuits, surfboards, and a certified instructor for a 2-hour practical lesson in the Atlantic swell. Lessons run daily at 10:00 and 14:00, with group sizes capped at 8 participants per instructor.
What to expect
- 2-hour session includes a 20-minute land drill on paddling and pop-up technique before entering the water
- All equipment provided: 7-foot soft-top boards, 4/3mm wetsuits, and reef booties for the volcanic shoreline
- You will catch 10-15 waves per hour in waist-deep water, with the instructor pushing you into each wave
- Suitable for first-timers and intermediate surfers; the beach break offers both gentle whitewater and a steeper left-hand peak
- Post-lesson debrief includes video analysis of your pop-up and turning, recorded on the instructor's GoPro
- Changing rooms and outdoor freshwater showers are available at the Ajuy surf base, 50 metres from the sand
