Diving & Snorkeling in Vathy is a guided underwater activity based in the harbour village of Vathy on Aegina island, Greece. Participants explore the rocky reefs and seagrass meadows of the Saronic Gulf, with visibility typically ranging from 10 to 20 metres. The site is accessible by boat from the village jetty, and sessions run year-round except during strong northerly winds.
What to expect
- Sessions last 2.5 hours, including a 20-minute boat transfer to the dive site and 45 minutes underwater for certified divers or 30 minutes for snorkelers.
- Full scuba equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, fins, and weights) is included in the dive package, with weights and air fills covered in the price.
- Divers descend to a maximum depth of 12 metres along a granite slope where groupers, damselfish, and octopus shelter among crevices.
- Snorkelers stay on the surface above a sandy patch bordered by Posidonia seagrass, where juvenile sea horses and starfish are commonly sighted.
- A certified instructor accompanies every group, and a pre-dive briefing covers hand signals, buddy checks, and the specific currents near the Vathy headland.
- The activity suits beginners with an Open Water Diver certification or first-time snorkelers aged 8 and up, provided they are comfortable in open water.
