About this experience

Gyms & Fitness in Zanzibar comprises a network of indoor training facilities and outdoor bootcamps located across Stone Town, Nungwi, and Paje. These venues offer modern cardio machines, free weights, and group classes tailored to travellers and residents. Each gym provides day passes, personal training sessions, and access to showers and lockers.

What to expect

Day passes are available from 10,000 TZS (about £3) at most facilities, with no membership required.
Group classes include sunrise yoga on the beach in Paje and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in air-conditioned studios.
Equipment ranges from treadmills and stationary bikes to squat racks and kettlebells, with free weights up to 50 kg.
Personal training sessions last 60 minutes and include a fitness assessment and customised workout plan.
Most gyms are open from 6:00 to 21:00, with peak hours between 17:00 and 19:00 when local residents train.
Facilities suit travellers wanting to maintain routines, expatriates seeking social workouts, and beginners needing guided instruction.
