Surf Lessons in Sumur Tiga is a guided surfing tuition programme based at Sumur Tiga beach on Weh Island, Sabang, Indonesia. The lessons take place on a gentle, reef-protected bay with consistent waves suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers. Each session includes a certified local instructor, a soft-top or fibreglass board, and a safety briefing before entering the water.
What to expect
- Each lesson runs for 2 hours, including 20 minutes of dry-land technique training on the sand and 100 minutes of in-water practice with a coach nearby.
- The package includes a surfboard, leash, and rash vest; wetsuits are not required as water temperatures average 28 degrees Celsius year-round.
- You will paddle out to a sandy channel beside the reef, where waves break at waist to chest height, allowing for repeated take-offs without strong currents.
- The lesson suits first-time surfers aged 12 and above, as well as those who have surfed fewer than five times and need help with pop-up timing and board control.
- After the session, you can rinse off at the beachside freshwater shower and store your gear at the lesson hut for the rest of the day at no extra cost.
- The instructor provides a video replay of your last three rides on a smartphone, with slow-motion analysis of your stance and paddle technique.
