About this experience

Surf Lessons in Iboih is a guided surf instruction programme based at the Iboih beach on Weh Island, off Sabang, Aceh. The lessons cater to beginners and intermediate surfers, using the calm, reef-protected waves of the bay. Each session is led by local instructors who know the tide and swell patterns of the Andaman Sea.

What to expect

Two-hour lesson includes a soft-top surfboard, leash, and rash vest.
Instructor provides a 20-minute land drill on paddling, popping up, and board control before entering the water.
You practise catching white-water waves in a waist-deep, sandy-bottomed area, with the instructor nearby for corrections.
Sessions run at low tide, when the reef is exposed and the wave zone is clearly marked by buoys.
Suitable for first-timers aged 8 and up; non-swimmers can use a life jacket provided on request.
After the lesson, you can rinse off with fresh water at the beachside shower station and store your gear for free until sunset.
