Surf Lessons in Balohan is a guided surf instruction activity based on the sheltered bay of Balohan, Weh (Sabang), suitable for first-timers and improving surfers. The lesson takes place on gentle, reef-protected waves within a short walk from the Balohan jetty, with all equipment provided by the local instructor. Each session focuses on paddle technique, wave reading, and standing up on the board, using the calm morning swell typical of this coastline.
What to expect
- Lesson duration is 2 hours, including 20 minutes of land-based safety and technique briefing before entering the water
- A soft-top surfboard, leash, and rash vest are included in the lesson fee, with wetsuit boots available for the rocky entry
- You will practise catching white-water waves in waist-deep water, with the instructor pushing you into waves and giving real-time corrections
- The session ends with a 10-minute video review of your paddling and pop-up form, filmed from the shore by the instructor
- Suitable for absolute beginners aged 8 and up, as well as intermediate surfers wanting to refine their pop-up timing on small waves
- The meeting point is the Balohan beachfront warung, where you change and store belongings before walking 50 metres to the surf break
