Language Schools in Iboih is a structured language-learning programme based on the north coast of Weh Island, Sabang. It offers daily classes in Acehnese, Indonesian, or English, taught by local instructors in small groups. The school operates from a beachfront classroom, with sessions scheduled around tide times to allow for practical language use in fishing and tourism contexts.
What to expect
- Daily 2-hour group classes (max 6 students) in Acehnese, Indonesian, or English, with a focus on conversational phrases used in local markets and dive shops
- Includes printed phrasebook and audio recordings of native speakers, plus one guided walking tour of Iboih village to practise greetings and bargaining
- Visitors observe and join a mock transaction at the fish auction, using vocabulary learned that morning
- Suits beginner to intermediate learners; no prior language study required, but a basic grasp of Roman script helps for Indonesian
- Classes run Monday to Friday at 09:00 and 16:00, each session ending with a 30-minute Q&A with the instructor
- All materials and a certificate of completion are provided; participants keep the phrasebook for post-course reference
