Coffee Shops in Sabang is a self-guided café crawl through the fishing village of Sabang, on Weh Island, Aceh. It covers the cluster of seaside coffee stalls and roasteries along the main road near the harbour, where locals brew Gayo arabica beans. Visitors can sample traditional Acehnese sanger (iced milk coffee) while watching boats unload catch.
What to expect
- A 2-3 hour walkable route passes 8 to 10 independent coffee stalls, each with its own grind and brew method
- Each stop includes a standard cup of Gayo arabica, with optional additions like palm sugar or condensed milk
- You will see open-air roasting drums and manual drip towers in operation at two dedicated roasteries
- Suitable for solo travellers or small groups who want a low-cost, low-key morning activity before diving trips
- Most shops open from 7am to 6pm, with peak seating on the wooden platforms facing the Strait of Malacca
- A typical visit includes at least one sanger and one black pour-over, plus a free glass of water at each venue
