Reaching the shop from the island's other main towns means travelling into Victoria first, whether by road from Nanaimo, Courtenay, Parksville, Port Alberni or Campbell River, or from the west coast communities of Tofino and Ucluelet.
Summers on Canada's islands are cool and winters cold, with June through August the busiest stretch for travellers. Seafood such as Atlantic lobster and salmon shapes much of the island's cooking. Ferries, bridges and domestic flights are the standard ways onto Canada's islands, and English and French are the languages in everyday use, so ordering at the counter is straightforward for most visitors.
