Vancouver Island's climate runs to cool summers and cold winters, and most visitors plan their trips between June and August when the weather is mildest. Seafood is a staple of Canadian island cooking, with salmon and Atlantic lobster appearing widely on menus. Ferries, bridges and domestic flights provide the main routes onto Canada's islands, and English and French are the languages most commonly spoken.
