First-time visitors to Trinidad should plan around the Caribbean's tropical climate, where the drier stretch generally falls between December and April and the wetter, more humid months run from June to November. Caribbean cooking draws on fresh seafood, tropical fruit, rice dishes and island-spiced flavours, so the local food scene extends well beyond Chinese menus. Travellers get by in English and French across much of the Caribbean, which helps with everyday navigation. International flights and inter-island ferries and flights link Trinidad with the rest of the region, and Port of Spain lies among the nearby places for those extending a stay.
