Surf Lessons in Den Burg is a structured surf coaching programme based in the village of Den Burg on the island of Texel, with sessions held at nearby North Sea beaches. The lessons cater to beginners and intermediate surfers, using Texel's consistent waves and shallow sandbanks. Each session is led by certified instructors who provide equipment and safety briefings before entering the water.

What to expect

Lessons run for 2 hours, including a 30-minute land-based technique drill and 90 minutes in the water.
All equipment is supplied: wetsuit, soft-top surfboard, and leash, sized to your height and weight.
Groups are capped at 8 participants per instructor, with a ratio of 1 instructor per 4 beginners.
You will practise paddling, pop-up technique, and wave reading on the beach at Paal 17, a 10-minute drive from Den Burg.
Sessions are available daily from May to September, with start times aligned to low tide for safer conditions.
Suitable for ages 12 and up; non-swimmers are not permitted, and a basic swimming test is conducted on the first session.
