About this experience

Supermarkets & Groceries in Den Burg is the collective term for the town's daily food shops, located in the main village of Texel island. These stores supply fresh bread, Dutch cheeses, local Texel lamb, and everyday household items to residents and visitors. The shops cluster along the main streets and near the town square, making them easy to reach on foot or by bike.

What to expect

Stores include Albert Heijn, Jumbo, and local grocers, all within a 10-minute walk of the town centre.
Fresh Texel lamb, smoked eel, and island-made cheeses are sold at the butcher, fishmonger, and farm shops.
Opening hours run from 08:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, with shorter hours on Saturday and Sunday morning closures.
Visitors can buy picnic supplies, including crusty rolls, local honey, and seasonal fruit, for a day at the beach or dunes.
Self-service checkout lanes are available at the larger supermarkets, while smaller shops offer counter service for deli items.
The shops suit self-catering holidaymakers, day-trippers needing lunch provisions, and cyclists stocking up for island rides.
