Oudeschild's Restaurants & Dining scene centres on the historic harbour village on Texel's southeast coast, offering fresh North Sea seafood and local lamb in a working fishing port. The village's eateries range from casual fish stalls to sit-down restaurants with harbour views, all within walking distance of the Maritime and Beachcombers Museum. Meals here often feature catches landed that morning, alongside Texel beer and cheese.
What to expect
- Sample freshly landed shrimp, sole, or mussels at the harbour-side fish stalls, where you can eat at picnic tables overlooking the fishing boats.
- Dine at a traditional Dutch eetcafé (bistro) serving hearty portions of stamppot or grilled fish, with mains typically priced between 15 and 25 euros.
- Watch the daily fish auction at the adjacent Oudeschild fish auction hall (open weekday mornings) before your meal, a 30-minute visit.
- Pair your meal with a local Texel beer, brewed on the island, or a glass of white wine from the nearby De Waddel vineyard.
- Choose a family-friendly restaurant with a children's menu and a play corner, suitable for visitors with kids aged 4 to 12.
- Book a table at a waterfront terrace for a 90-minute dinner at sunset, with views of the Wadden Sea and passing ferries.
