Surf Lessons in Nari Basin is a guided surfing programme on the volcanic black-sand beach of Nari Basin, Ulleungdo. The lessons are run by local instructors who know the basin's unique currents and wave patterns. Each session combines land-based safety training with in-water practice, tailored to the participant's skill level.
What to expect
- Lessons last 2 hours, including a 30-minute dry-land briefing on paddle technique and rip-current avoidance.
- All equipment is provided: soft-top surfboard, wetsuit, leash, and wax, sized to your height and weight.
- You will practise catching white-water waves in the shallow, sheltered southern corner of the basin, where the seabed is sandy and free of rocks.
- Instructors film a short video of your final ride, which you can keep as a digital file after the session.
- Suitable for first-timers and intermediate surfers; children aged 8 and above can join a separate family session with a shorter board.
