Surf Lessons in Koh Yao Yai Village is a beginner-focused surf school located on the quiet west coast of Koh Yao Yai, Phuket's neighbouring island. The lessons take place on the gentle, reef-protected beach of Loh Paret, where consistent small waves suit first-time surfers. Certified instructors provide one-on-one coaching using soft-top boards, with sessions timed to the morning tide.
What to expect
- Each lesson runs for 90 minutes, including 20 minutes of land-based technique drills and 70 minutes in the water
- All equipment is provided: a 9-foot soft-top surfboard, rash vest, and reef-safe sunscreen
- The beach break at Loh Paret has a sandy bottom with no rocks, making it safe for children aged 8 and up
- Instructors are certified by the International Surfing Association and speak English and Thai
- Group sizes are capped at 4 students per instructor, ensuring individual feedback on paddling, popping up, and turning
- Sessions conclude with a video replay on a tablet so you can review your wave technique before leaving
