Surf Lessons in Dodong is a guided surfing programme on the wave-exposed shoreline of Dodong Village, Ulleungdo’s main port. The lessons run for two hours and include a wetsuit, surfboard, and a certified instructor who stays in the water with you. The volcanic seabed and consistent autumn swells make this a practical spot for first-time surfers and those wanting to refine their pop-up technique.
What to expect
- Two-hour session with a maximum of four students per instructor, ensuring direct feedback on paddling and balance
- All equipment provided: 7-foot soft-top board, 5mm wetsuit, booties, and leash, fitted before entering the water
- Warm-up and dry-land drills on the black sand beach, followed by 90 minutes of supervised wave riding in waist-deep water
- Suitable for ages 12 and up, with non-swimmers allowed to use a float belt and stay within 10 metres of the instructor
- Post-lesson debrief includes video replay of your last three rides, with pointers on turning and reading rip currents
- Changing rooms and hot showers are available at the adjacent Dodong Harbour facility, free for lesson participants
