Surf Lessons in Chusan is a guided surfing programme on the wave-exposed eastern shore of Ulleungdo Island. The lessons take place at Chusan Beach, a black-sand cove with consistent summer swells and shallow gradients. Certified instructors provide boards, wetsuits, and safety briefings before each session.
What to expect
- Each lesson runs for 90 minutes, including a 20-minute land-based technique drill and 70 minutes of supervised water time.
- All equipment is supplied: a soft-top surfboard, a 5mm wetsuit, and a leash, sized to your height and weight.
- You will practise paddling, pop-up positioning, and wave-reading in waist-deep water before attempting green waves.
- The class size is capped at six students per instructor, with a second instructor added for groups larger than four.
- Suitable for first-timers and casual surfers; participants must be able to swim 50 metres unassisted and be at least 12 years old.
- After the session, you can rinse off at the beachside freshwater shower and store your board for a free second-hour practice.
