Supermarkets & Groceries in Palermo

About this experience

What to expect

• Visits typically last 30 to 90 minutes, depending on whether you browse a single store or compare several markets and supermarkets in one area.
• You will see fresh produce sections with local citrus, olives, and seasonal vegetables, plus deli counters selling Sicilian cheeses, cured meats, and prepared arancine.
• Larger chain stores such as Conad, Coop, and Despar offer packaged goods, household items, and often a bakery, while historic markets like Ballarò and Vucciria focus on raw ingredients and street food stalls.
• Cash is commonly expected at market stalls, while most supermarkets accept card payments; some smaller shops have a minimum card spend of 5 to 10 euros.
• Opening hours vary: supermarkets typically run 8:30 to 20:30 Monday to Saturday, with many closing Sunday afternoon, while markets operate from early morning until roughly 13:00, with some reopening in the evening.
• This activity suits independent travellers, self-catering visitors, and food-focused walkers who want to buy picnic supplies or cook local ingredients in a rental kitchen.
