Camel Riding in Mabul Island is a guided camel trek along the sandy paths and beachfront of Mabul, a small island off the coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The activity offers a land-based contrast to the island's famous diving sites, with a 30-minute ride led by local handlers. Riders mount a single-humped camel and follow a fixed route past stilt villages and coconut groves, with the sea visible on both sides.
What to expect
- Ride lasts 30 minutes, with a 10-minute safety briefing and mounting assistance from the handler
- Each session includes a camel saddle, a lead rope, and a handler walking beside the animal at all times
- The route covers 800 metres of beachfront and village edge, passing the Mabul Water Bungalows jetty
- Suitable for children aged 6 and above, with a maximum rider weight of 90 kilograms
- You will see the island's stilt houses, fishing boats, and the turquoise water of the Celebes Sea from the camel's back
- A photo stop is included at the eastern beach point, where the camel kneels for a seated portrait
