St. John lies in the Caribbean, where the drier season generally runs December to April and the wetter, more humid months fall between June and November. Caribbean cooking draws on fresh seafood, tropical fruit, rice dishes and island-spiced flavours, which a rental car makes easier to sample across the island. International flights and inter-island ferries and flights link the Caribbean islands, so arriving on St. John often involves a connection. English and French are widely spoken across the Caribbean islands, which helps visitors navigate both islands.
