About this experience

Coffee Shops in Sri Lanka is a curated guide to the island's specialty coffee scene, spanning Colombo's urban cafés and hill-country estates. It highlights where to find locally grown beans, from Kandy to Galle, with a focus on independent roasters and plantation-to-cup experiences. The guide covers both established cafés and emerging micro-roasteries, offering a practical route for coffee enthusiasts.

What to expect

Visit working coffee estates in the central highlands, such as those near Nuwara Eliya, where you can see cherry picking and wet processing.
Taste single-origin Ceylon coffee brewed as pour-over, cold brew, or espresso at roasteries in Colombo's Cinnamon Gardens and Fort districts.
Join a cupping session at a specialty roastery in Kandy, typically lasting 45 minutes, with samples of beans from three different elevations.
Explore cafés that pair coffee with local snacks like hoppers or wattalapam, a coconut-caramel pudding, in Galle Fort's restored Dutch-era buildings.
Find barista-led workshops in Negombo or Matara, where you can learn to use a siphon or V60 with beans harvested from the same season.
