Dunedin sits on the eastern side of South Island, with Queenstown, Christchurch and Wanaka among the island settlements within reach of the city.
English is the main language and te reo Māori is also official, so Māori place names are used throughout the country. Tūī, kererū and other native birds are common, and dolphins, fur seals and seabirds are seen around the coast, so a coastal walk pairs well with a salon appointment.
