About this experience

Surf Lessons in Corvo is a guided surfing programme on the island of Corvo, the smallest of the Azores, in the village of Vila do Corvo. The lessons take place at Praia da Areia, the island's only sandy beach, sheltered by the caldeira cliffs. Participants learn wave reading and paddle techniques suited to the Atlantic swells that reach this remote shore.

What to expect

Each lesson runs for 2 hours, including a 15-minute land-based briefing on safety and board handling before entering the water.
The package includes a soft-top surfboard, a 5mm wetsuit, and booties, all sized to the participant's height and weight.
Groups are capped at 6 people per instructor, with a ratio that allows individual feedback on pop-up and stance.
The beach break at Praia da Areia produces gentle, waist-high waves on calm days, making it suitable for first-timers and novices.
Lessons are scheduled around the tide table, with morning sessions starting at 9:00 and afternoon sessions at 14:00, weather permitting.
After the session, participants rinse equipment at the on-site outdoor shower and receive a printed card with three drills to practise independently.
