Surf Lessons in Port Mathurin offer structured coaching on the reef breaks of Rodrigues Island, located at the main harbour town. Beginners and intermediate surfers receive hands-on instruction from certified local guides, with all equipment provided. The lessons take place in the sheltered lagoon and outer reef, where wave conditions suit first-timers and progressing riders.
What to expect
- Each lesson lasts 2 hours, including a 20-minute land-based safety briefing and wave-reading tutorial before entering the water.
- All gear is included: soft-top surfboard, leash, wax, and a UV-protection rash vest sized for adults and children.
- You will practise paddling, pop-up technique, and wave selection on the inside break, then progress to the outer reef if conditions allow.
- Groups are capped at 6 students per instructor, ensuring individual feedback on posture and timing.
- Suitable for ages 8 and up; non-swimmers can use a flotation belt, and wetsuits are available for cooler months (June to September).
- Lessons conclude with a video review of your session, showing your take-off and ride, plus tips for independent practice.
