Great Shop
About
On Rhodes, Great Shop is a supermarket that island visitors rely on for everyday provisions. Its 5 out of 5 rating comes from 108 reviews, an unusually consistent record for a food retailer.
Shoppers stepping inside for the first time can expect the usual supermarket staples alongside the Greek brands that fill island kitchens. A website at http://www.ohdeer.me/ supports the business. Rhodes Town, Lindos, Faliraki, Ixia, Ialysos, Kallithea, Afandou and Kolymbia all lie within the island's main resort belt, so a branch of this kind is straightforward to work into a day out.
Daily life on the island slows in the afternoon and tavernas serve late into the evening, so stocking up earlier in the day fits the local rhythm. Winter brings rain and rough seas, and many island hotels and tavernas shut between November and March, which changes what is available outside the main season.
Horiatiki salad, grilled octopus and thyme honey from island hills appear widely on menus, and the ingredients for all three can be picked up on a single shopping trip. Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian remains are found across the islands, from Delos to the old town of Rhodes.
