Caribbean cooking makes good use of fish, lobster and conch, often stewed or grilled with lime and pepper, and San Juan's kitchens serve that tradition close to the hotel. Minibuses and shared taxis are common public transport on the islands, usually leaving only when full, so allow extra time for journeys. Carnival parades take place across the Caribbean, some before Lent and others in the summer months, which can shape the timing of a visit.
