Artisan Markets in Linosa is a weekly open-air market held in the main piazza of Linosa, the smallest inhabited island of the Pelagie archipelago in Sicily. Local makers and farmers sell handmade ceramics, woven baskets, and fresh produce such as capers and lentils grown on the island's volcanic soil. The market runs from 9:00 to 13:00 every Saturday from June to September, with stalls set along the seafront promenade.
What to expect
- Four-hour Saturday market (9:00-13:00) in Piazza San Martino, a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock
- Stalls include hand-painted Sicilian ceramics, agave-fibre baskets, and olive wood utensils, all made by island residents
- Fresh island produce for sale: sun-dried tomatoes, wild oregano, and the local Linosa lentil, sold in cloth sacks
- Visitors can watch a potter throw clay on a portable wheel and buy a piece finished on-site
- Suits travellers seeking authentic local crafts, not tourist trinkets, and pairs well with a morning walk to the nearby Cala Pozzolana beach
