About this experience

Festivals in Lakka is a series of traditional Greek celebrations held in the harbour village of Lakka on Paxos island. These events typically occur during the summer months, featuring religious processions, live music, and communal feasts. The festivals are organised by local families and the village church, drawing both residents and visiting sailors.

What to expect

  • Attend the feast of Agios Georgios on 23 April, which includes a church service, a procession through the harbour, and a shared meal of grilled fish and local wine.
  • Join the summer panigiri on the waterfront square, where a live band plays Greek folk music from 9pm until midnight and locals perform traditional circle dances.
  • Sample homemade pastitsio, lamb stew, and fresh bread prepared by village women in large pots, served free to all attendees.
  • Watch the evening boat parade on 15 August, when decorated caiques circle the bay carrying icons of the Virgin Mary, followed by fireworks over the water.
  • Suitable for families and solo travellers, as children join the dancing and visitors are invited to sit at long communal tables with residents.
  • Each festival lasts 3 to 4 hours, with the main events starting after sunset to avoid the daytime heat.
